ADHD and Autism
ADHD awareness is rising and demand for diagnosis and support services continues to grow. Demand for ADHD assessments has grown beyond service capacity. Waiting lists are expected to exceed 25,000 people across Greater Manchester without changes. More information is available on the Greater Manchester Integrated Care Partnership website.
Children and young people with suspected ADHD should be referred by school Special Educational Needs Co-ordinators (SENCo) where possible (rather than via a GP). The SENCo will be asked to complete the school questionnaire for assessment of ADHD. This is preferable as information from school is required as part of the assessment before it can begin and schools need to be aware of the concerns and may be able to resolve some of issues with classroom intervention without the need for a referral.
If you are unhappy waiting for a local assessment then you can exercise the Right to Choose. You can read more about what Right to Choose is and the providers that are available. Please be aware that we may be unable to accept any shared care arrangements for prescribing and monitoring from some Right to Choose providers so please think carefully before you choose.
